Configuring Windows Update to obtain updates for more products is a one-off procedure that ensures Windows Update uses the Microsoft Update site, which provides updates for additional Microsoft products rather than the Windows Update site, which provides only OS updates. If you performed a clean install of Windows Vista, as described in s 1 and 2, you need to carry out this procedure. If, however, you instead performed an OS upgrade or if someone else has previously carried out the procedure, there is no need for you to configure Windows Update to obtain updates for more products. In this case, you will not see the Get Updates For More Products link in the Windows Update dialog box, as described in step 3 of the Practice. In this situation, you can connect manually to the Microsoft Update site at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/v6 /vistadefault.aspx ln=en-us and read the Microsoft Update Privacy Statement and Terms of Use.

An alert is a notification of an event or action that has occurred on ISA Server. When the event occurs, an alert is triggered according to the conditions and trigger thresholds specified for the event. You can view the alerts in the ISA Server Management Console in the Alerts view of the Monitoring node. An alert definition lists the specific actions or notifications that occur when an event takes place on the computer running ISA Server. Alert events define actions that occur on the computer running ISA Server that can raise alerts. Alert conditions are additional criteria applied by ISA Server when alert events occur. You can also define the actions that will occur after the alert is triggered. Many of the ISA Server alerts are used to report on detected intrusions attempts. You can configure the intrusion detection alerts to shut down the ISA Firewall Service. You can manage all alerts in the Alerts view of the Monitoring Node in ISA Server Management Console.

Practice 1: Configuring Windows Update to Obtain Updates for More Products By default, Windows Update obtains updates for Windows only. To configure it to obtain updates for more products, follow these steps: 1. If necessary, log on by using the Kim_Ackers account that you created when you installed Windows Vista. 2. On the All Programs menu, select Windows Update. 3. In the Windows Update dialog box, click Get Updates For More Products, as shown in Figure 12-10. If this link is not available, then you do not need to configure Windows Update to obtain updates for more products refer to the Important note that precedes this practice.

ISA Server 2004 provides the ability to monitor real-time information about the current sessions open on the server. You can use session monitoring to identify the users or computers that are connected to the ISA Server computer. These clients may be internal SecureNAT, Firewall, or Web Proxy clients, or they may be Internet clients connected to an internal Web resource, or through a VPN connection. Session monitoring provides real-time information about the client sessions. This information is accessible on the Session view of the Monitoring node in the ISA Server Management Console, as shown in Figure 11-8.
